What Is Power Bus Bar (Rack)?_
In GPU racks, bus bars replace traditional cable bundles by providing a low-impedance, high-ampacity path for 48 V or similar DC power. They are typically mounted vertically inside the rack’s rear or side channels, with tap-off points that mate to server power input modules. This design reduces voltage drop, simplifies cable management, and supports the high power densities of modern GPU nodes.
Technical Details
Bus bars are usually made of copper or aluminum, sized per the rack’s total power budget as specified by the OEM. They are insulated along their length except at designated connection points, which often use spring-loaded or bolted contacts. The bus bar system must be rated for the full rack current and comply with relevant electrical safety standards for DC distribution. Installation requires careful alignment to avoid short circuits and ensure proper torque on connections per the manufacturer’s instructions.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Power Bus Bar (Rack)
During rack assembly, Leviathan crews mount the bus bar rails before installing GPU servers, ensuring each node’s power input aligns with the tap-off points. We verify that all connections are secure and that the bus bar is properly grounded to the rack frame.
