What Is Liquid-to-Liquid CDU?_
This unit isolates the rack’s internal coolant loop from the building’s primary chilled-water or facility water loop, preventing contamination and allowing independent flow control. It typically contains plate heat exchangers, pumps, and valves to manage temperature and pressure. The CDU is a key interface between the rack-level cooling and the data center’s central cooling plant.
Technical Details
The CDU uses a plate heat exchanger to transfer heat between the two liquid loops without mixing them. It includes redundant pumps and temperature sensors to maintain coolant within OEM-specified ranges. Flow rates and pressure drops are set according to the rack’s thermal load and the facility loop’s capacity. The unit is often mounted at the bottom or top of the rack to minimize piping runs.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Liquid-to-Liquid CDU
Leviathan field crews install and connect the CDU to both the rack’s internal coolant manifolds and the facility’s supply/return lines during rack assembly. We verify flow direction, pressure, and leak-tightness before commissioning the liquid cooling loop.
