What Is Link Integrity Test?_
During commissioning, each cable or backplane trace is tested to confirm it meets the required signal quality and connectivity standards. This test catches mis-seated connectors, damaged fibers, or faulty transceivers before the network stack is brought online. It is typically performed with a dedicated tester or through built-in diagnostics on the networking equipment.
Technical Details
For copper NVLink links inside the rack, the test checks for proper impedance and continuity across the differential pairs, often using time-domain reflectometry (TDR) or simple continuity checks. For fiber optic scale-out links, an optical power meter or visual fault locator may be used to ensure the fiber is not broken or excessively bent. The test is run per the OEM’s commissioning procedure, and any failing link is flagged for re-termination or replacement before the system is powered up.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Link Integrity Test
Our field crew runs Link Integrity Tests on every GPU-to-GPU NVLink cable and every InfiniBand or Ethernet fiber trunk during rack assembly and structured cabling. A failed test stops the build until the physical layer is fixed, preventing hard-to-diagnose network issues later.
