What Is Rack Ingress Protection?_
It is expressed through standardized IP codes that classify the degree of protection provided by the rack enclosure. Higher protection levels require tighter seals, gaskets, and filtered airflow paths while still allowing required cable and coolant connections. In data-center environments the rating must balance contaminant exclusion with adequate cooling airflow or liquid-loop access.
Technical Details
IP codes use two digits: the first for solid-particle protection and the second for liquid ingress. Enclosures achieve these ratings through continuous gaskets, blanking panels, and properly seated doors rather than adhesive or improvised seals. When liquid cooling is present, pass-through fittings for manifolds must preserve the enclosure rating specified by the OEM. Field crews confirm seal integrity after any door or panel removal during installation or service.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Rack Ingress Protection
During rack assembly and liquid-cooling installation, crews inspect door gaskets and blanking panels to maintain the enclosure rating before manifolds are connected. Any breach found during commissioning is corrected before the rack is handed over.
