What Is Rack Levelling?_

Rack levelling ensures the rack is perfectly vertical (plumb) and horizontal (level) before any equipment is installed. This prevents structural stress on the rack, misalignment of cable trays, and uneven loading on liquid cooling manifolds. It is typically done using a spirit level and adjusting the rack’s threaded feet or base plates.

Technical Details

The rack frame is checked for plumb on both the front and rear vertical rails, and level across the top and bottom rails. Adjustments are made by turning the leveling feet—usually with a wrench or socket—until the bubble in the spirit level is centered. In Leviathan Systems deployments, this step is critical before installing heavy GPU nodes or liquid cooling distribution units, as an unlevel rack can cause coolant line stress or door misalignment. The final check often uses a digital level to confirm tolerances within the OEM’s specified range.

How Leviathan Systems Works with Rack Levelling

Our field crew performs rack levelling as part of the initial rack assembly for every NVL72 deployment, typically before any structured cabling or liquid cooling tubing is run. An unlevel rack can lead to cascading issues with GPU networking cable strain and coolant loop alignment.
