The gender determines how two MPO connectors mate without requiring additional alignment hardware. MPO connectors are push-pull fiber-optic interfaces used for multi-fiber trunks in high-density cabling. Polarity must also be managed separately from gender when planning links.
Technical Details
Guide pins on the male connector seat into the female housing to maintain fiber-to-fiber alignment across all strands. MPO connectors follow the IEC 61754-7 interface standard for dimensional compatibility. Gender is fixed at manufacture and cannot be changed in the field without replacing the connector body. Push-pull latching is used; no torque screws are present on MPO interfaces.
