What Is MPO-16 Connector?_

MPO connectors enable parallel-optic links by mating multiple fibers simultaneously through precision alignment pins and holes. The -16 variant supports sixteen-fiber counts for higher-density trunk or breakout assemblies used in data-center fabrics. Like other MPO types it is a push-pull design with no torque screws or threaded retention.

Technical Details

Fibers are arranged in two rows of eight within the ferrule; polarity is managed by keying and pin-gender choices per the relevant standard. Typical deployments use the connector on trunk cables that break out to QSFP or OSFP transceivers for InfiniBand or Ethernet scale-out networks. Cleaning and inspection occur on every mate because debris on any fiber affects the entire link.

How Leviathan Systems Works with MPO-16 Connector

Field crews terminate or route MPO-16 trunks when installing the separate fiber scale-out network that interconnects GPU racks to leaf or spine switches, distinct from the copper NVLink spine inside each rack.
