What Is LC Connector?_
The LC (Lucent Connector) is a push-pull fiber optic connector with a 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule, offering high-density termination in patch panels and transceivers. Its latch mechanism ensures secure connection without torque, and it supports single-mode and multimode fibers. In GPU data centers, LC connectors are standard for scale-out InfiniBand or Ethernet links, not for NVLink copper spine connections.
Technical Details
LC connectors use a 1.25 mm ferrule, half the size of the older SC connector, enabling higher port density on faceplates and transceivers. They are typically used in duplex configurations for bidirectional transmission, with insertion loss and return loss per the relevant standard. Polishing types (e.g., UPC, APC) affect reflectance, with APC angled ferrules used for analog or high-power applications. Proper cleaning and inspection are critical to avoid contamination that degrades optical performance.
How Leviathan Systems Works with LC Connector
Our field crews terminate and test LC connectors on fiber trunk cables running from GPU rack top-of-rack switches to the data-center fiber distribution frame. We use LC duplex patch cords to connect transceivers in InfiniBand/Ethernet switches, ensuring low loss for scale-out network commissioning.
