What Is Delta T?_
In data-center liquid cooling, Delta T measures how much heat the coolant absorbs as it passes through a cold plate or heat exchanger. A larger Delta T indicates more heat removal per unit flow rate. Engineers use this value to balance pump speed, coolant flow, and thermal performance.
Technical Details
Delta T is calculated as the outlet temperature minus the inlet temperature of the coolant loop. Typical values depend on the coolant flow rate, heat load, and the specific cold-plate design; the OEM spec defines the acceptable range for each GPU generation. In a high-density GPU rack with multiple nodes, the facility coolant loop’s Delta T is monitored at the rack manifold to ensure each GPU node stays within its thermal envelope. A Delta T that drifts outside the expected band can indicate a flow restriction, a failing pump, or an excessive heat load.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Delta T
During rack commissioning, our field crew records Delta T at the rack manifold and at each GPU cold plate to validate the cooling loop’s performance. We also check Delta T trends during burn-in to catch early signs of blockages or pump degradation.
