What Is Coolant Distribution Manifold?_
The CDM acts as a centralized hub for coolant flow, receiving chilled liquid from the facility loop and routing it to individual GPU or server cold plates. It also collects the warmed return coolant and directs it back to the heat rejection system. This manifold typically includes isolation valves, flow meters, and temperature sensors for monitoring and balancing.
Technical Details
CDMs are installed in the rack’s liquid cooling distribution frame, often at the top or bottom, and connect to cold plates via flexible hoses or rigid tubing. They use quick-disconnect couplings to allow server replacement without draining the entire loop. The manifold must be sized to handle the total heat load of the rack, with flow rates and pressure drops per OEM specifications. Proper orientation and support are critical to avoid stress on tubing connections.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Coolant Distribution Manifold
In our field work, CDMs are mounted and plumbed during the liquid cooling infrastructure build-out, after rack assembly but before GPU server installation. We verify all connections are leak-free and flow-balanced before commissioning the cooling loop.
