What Is Transceiver Break-In Burn?_

During this phase the transceiver runs under nominal conditions while link status, temperature, and optical power are monitored for drift or outright failure. The process targets infant-mortality defects in the laser, driver, or photodiode that would otherwise appear only after deployment. It is performed on the scale-out InfiniBand or Ethernet fabric, not on the intra-rack NVLink copper connections.

Technical Details

Modules are inserted into QSFP or OSFP cages and brought up at the intended data rate with the corresponding fiber or DAC attached. Monitoring uses the module's internal digital diagnostics; no external torque is applied because push-pull connectors have no screws. Failures are logged against the specific port and module serial number before the rack proceeds to full fabric validation.

How Leviathan Systems Works with Transceiver Break-In Burn

Field crews run break-in burn on every new transceiver during the commissioning window of H100 or GB200 NVL72 racks so that any defective optics are replaced before the structured-cabling team leaves site.
