What Is Switched Rack PDU?_
It supplies multiple outlets from one or more input feeds and allows each outlet to be switched independently over a network interface. This enables power cycling of connected equipment without physical access to the rack. Switched models commonly include outlet-level metering and sequencing to manage inrush current during startup.
Technical Details
Outlets are typically IEC C13 or C19 types wired to internal relays controlled by the PDU's embedded controller. The unit connects to the facility management network via Ethernet or serial and exposes control through SNMP, REST, or proprietary protocols. Input power is delivered through one or more IEC 60309 or NEMA connectors sized for the rack load. Redundant switched PDUs are often paired on separate feeds to maintain availability when one source is lost.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Switched Rack PDU
During GPU rack assembly and commissioning, switched PDUs are installed in the rear of large-scale GPU racks to allow remote power control of compute trays and networking switches before liquid cooling loops are fully validated.
