What Is Switch Radix?_

It sets the maximum number of direct connections the switch can support to endpoints or to other switches. The chosen radix shapes the overall fabric topology and the number of hops required between any two nodes. In large GPU clusters the radix of leaf and spine switches therefore governs how the scale-out network is laid out.

Technical Details

Radix is fixed by the switch ASIC and the chassis port layout. A portion of the ports is normally reserved for uplinks while the remainder serves downlinks or host attachments. The actual number of usable ports in a given deployment is set by the chosen topology rather than by any external standard.

How Leviathan Systems Works with Switch Radix

During rack-scale fabric installation the radix of each switch determines how many MPO or QSFP cables must be routed and dressed from that switch to the GPU trays and to the spine layer.
