What Is Retimer?_
A retimer recovers the timing and data of an incoming electrical serial signal and retransmits it. TI’s PCIe documentation distinguishes retimers with clock-and-data recovery from linear redrivers that equalize the incoming waveform. The applicable protocol and complete device documentation determine where a particular retimer can be used.

Retimers appear in documented board and cable products: TI describes DS160PT801 for PCIe motherboard and multi-connector system links, while Amphenol lists NEUUSH-0103 as a PCIe active electrical cable with a retimer.
