What Is IT PDU vs Facility PDU?_
Facility PDUs receive higher-voltage feeds and step down or branch power for row-level or rack-group delivery. IT PDUs sit inside or on the rack and provide the final outlets and circuit protection for IT loads. The two are separated by ownership boundaries, maintenance responsibilities, and electrical codes.
Technical Details
Facility PDUs commonly use three-phase input and larger breakers feeding busway or whip connections. IT PDUs accept those feeds and present single-phase or three-phase outlets with per-outlet metering or switching. Monitoring and branch-circuit protection differ by level, with facility units focused on upstream coordination and IT units on equipment-level visibility.

Facility electrical installation, hardwiring, feed termination, phasing and energization remain with the customer-appointed qualified electrical parties. A power-cord connection to existing approved equipment or rack-mounted PDUs may only be considered within a separately agreed scope subject to OEM instructions, facility authorization, personnel qualifications and insurance.
