What Is Facility Supply/Return Headers?_
These headers form the backbone of a facility-scale liquid cooling loop, typically branching from coolant distribution units or heat exchangers to serve multiple rows of racks. They operate as a closed system separate from the IT equipment's internal cold plates and rack manifolds. Flow balancing and isolation valves are installed along the headers to allow maintenance on individual racks without shutting down the entire loop.
Technical Details
Headers are sized to handle aggregate flow from all connected racks and are often fabricated from Schedule pipe or welded stainless steel sections. Connections to rack-level piping use flanged or grooved mechanical joints rather than push-pull connectors. Differential pressure sensors and temperature probes are placed at header endpoints to monitor loop performance during commissioning.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Facility Supply/Return Headers
Field crews connect rack supply and return lines to these headers after rack placement and before leak testing, then verify flow paths during the commissioning phase of liquid-cooled deployments.
