What Is Air Economization Hours?_

The metric tracks time windows in which ambient temperature and humidity fall within acceptable supply-air limits, allowing outside air to be filtered and delivered directly or through heat exchangers. It reduces compressor runtime and is derived from local weather data compared against facility control setpoints. Values vary by climate zone and by the chosen economizer type (direct, indirect, or evaporative).

Technical Details

Calculation uses hourly bin weather data plotted against the facility's psychrometric envelope defined by OEM inlet specifications. Systems typically combine air-side economizers with CRAH or AHU units that automatically modulate dampers and bypass chillers when conditions permit. The same control sequence must still maintain required filtration, pressurization, and humidity limits for IT equipment. Liquid-cooled GPU racks still rely on the facility air loop for any non-liquid components and for heat rejection from CDUs.
