What Is Coolant Bypass Loop?_
The bypass loop connects the supply and return headers upstream and downstream of the server branch so that flow can continue when individual nodes are isolated. It prevents pump dead-heading and keeps differential pressure within the operating range of the active cold plates. Valves at the rack manifold open or close the path during service or when a rack is only partially populated.
Technical Details
The loop is built from the same pipe diameter as the main distribution lines and uses the same quick-disconnect fittings found on server supply/return hoses. Flow capacity through the bypass is matched to the expected load of the remaining servers so that total CDU flow does not change when the bypass is opened. During commissioning the loop is opened to circulate and filter coolant through the facility piping before any servers are connected.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Coolant Bypass Loop
Field crews install and label the bypass valves on every rack manifold during liquid-cooling integration so that a rack can be drained or swapped without shutting down the CDU loop serving adjacent racks.
