What Is Dust Cap?_
A dust cap covers a fiber-optic connector or port. Fluke’s public fiber-contamination paper explains that protective dust covers can themselves carry contamination, including on new factory-terminated connectors. A cap-present observation is therefore different from an assessed end-face condition; it does not show that a connector is clean or defective.
Technical Details
Keep the cap and interface description tied to the exact connector or equipment documentation. Cap presence, visible external condition and an end-face assessment describe different evidence. The applicable equipment instructions and authorized project scope determine any removal, fitting, reuse, inspection or cleaning task. This definition supplies no handling sequence, timing rule or claim that a particular cap fits or protects a particular interface.
