What Is Cable Management Arm?_
A cable management arm (CMA) is a hinged or telescoping bracket mounted to the rear of a server chassis, designed to route and retain power, data, and liquid cooling hoses during maintenance. It allows the server to be extended from the rack without disconnecting cables, reducing strain on connectors and preventing accidental disconnects. CMAs are essential in dense GPU clusters where frequent access is needed for troubleshooting or upgrades.
Technical Details
CMAs typically attach to the rack rails and server chassis via tool-less slides, accommodating a defined bend radius for fiber and copper cables to avoid signal degradation. They support a specific weight limit per the OEM spec, often including hook-and-loop straps or cable ties for securing bundles. In liquid-cooled racks, CMAs must also manage flexible coolant hoses without kinking, requiring careful routing to maintain flow.
How Leviathan Systems Works with Cable Management Arm
Our field crews install CMAs on every GPU server in Leviathan Systems racks, ensuring cables for NVLink copper spines and InfiniBand fiber are neatly routed before sliding servers into position. During commissioning, we verify that CMAs allow full chassis extension without stressing connectors, critical for quick swap-outs in production.
