What Is Raised Floor Grommet?_

A raised floor grommet is a plastic or rubber fitting installed into a pre-cut hole in a raised floor panel. It provides a clean, fire-rated passage for cables (power, data, coolant hoses) between the subfloor plenum and the equipment above, while preventing sharp edges from damaging cable jackets. Grommets also help maintain the floor's structural integrity and reduce air leakage from the cooling plenum.

Technical Details

Grommets are typically sized to match standard floor tile cutouts (e.g., 4-inch or 6-inch diameter) and are often made of flame-retardant materials per local fire codes. They may include brush strips or flexible fingers to seal around cables without pinching them. In liquid-cooled racks, grommets must accommodate both power cables and dielectric coolant hoses without kinking or chafing. Installation is done after the tile is cut, and grommets should be secured against dislodgment during cable pulls.

How Leviathan Systems Works with Raised Floor Grommet

During Leviathan Systems rack assembly and structured cabling, we install raised floor grommets in every tile that carries cables to a GPU rack, ensuring a clean transition from the subfloor to the rack base. They are a routine part of our pre-commissioning checklist, especially in data centers with overhead or underfloor cooling.
